Beneficios de la fisioterapia en pacientes con Alzheimer
Resumen
Introducción: La enfermedad de Alzheimer afecta tanto la cognición como la actividad física diaria y a pesar que los tratamientos farmacológicos retrasan hasta cierto punto la progresión de la enfermedad, poseen una eficacia limitada y efectos secundarios considerables, razón por la cual la fisioterapia constituye una eficiente opción no farmacológica en el tratamiento de la enfermedad. Objetivo: Determinar mediante una revisión de literatura los beneficios de la fisioterapia en pacientes con Alzheimer. Metodología: Se realizó una investigación bibliográfica sistemática en Medline, Scielo, Cochrane, Google académico y Blogs de temas relacionados con la fisioterapia y la enfermedad de Alzheimer, para los estudios publicados en un periodo comprendido entre los años 2010 y 2021, seleccionando los de mayor interés para elaborar el presente estudio sobre los beneficios de la fisioterapia en pacientes con Alzheimer. Resultados: Luego del análisis de los artículos considerados para el desarrollo de la investigación se evidenció que todos coinciden en afirmar que la terapia física, en cualquiera de sus variantes y aplicadas de manera regular a pacientes con Alzheimer, mejora la función física minimizando el riesgo de caídas, mejorando la marcha y el desplazamiento, el equilibrio e inclusive la función cognitiva. Conclusiones: La fisioterapia puede mejorar la función física, cognitiva y la independencia en las actividades de la vida diaria en aquellos pacientes diagnosticados con la enfermedad de Alzheimer.
